Immersion English Programme – Year 7 & Year 8

At Elian’s British School, our secondary pupils can obtain double qualifications. Up to Year 11 they work towards the Spanish qualification and the British IGCSE qualifications. In Years 12-13, they study for the IB Diploma.

What Is It?
This programme is designed for capable students who need to improve their English in order to access our British International curriculum. It provides intensive language support while ensuring students remain fully integrated into school life.
Students who have been part of the Primary ELIS programme and are not yet ready to join mainstream classes will continue in this Secondary Immersion Programme until their English is at the required level.
How Does It Work?
Students are taught English in small groups for 20 hours per week by an experienced native English teacher.
For the rest of the school day, students join their peers for tutor time, sports, art, PSHE, and assemblies, fostering social integration and friendships with students of similar ages.
Spanish curriculum:
Spanish students will continue to follow the Spanish curriculum subjects and join lessons in their main class. Each case will be evaluated individually.
The desired outcome is for students to join mainstream classes after one year, sooner if they progress rapidly, or slightly longer if additional support is needed.
By Year 10, students will be fully prepared to study for their IGCSE exams, setting them up for success in sixth form.

Team
Students are taught by an experienced native English teacher, who guides them through the immersion programme and monitors progress closely.
Timetable
20 hours per week of small-group English classes.
Remaining school activities (tutor time, sports, art, PSHE, assemblies) are attended with peers to ensure full social and academic integration.
Admission
During the admission process, and once the team is aware of the student’s language needs, the family will be asked to confirm their child’s use of the service at the time of enrolment through this LINK Indicating in the additional information “immersion programme”.
