Beyond the Game: Alicante’s Summer School where sport makes history

Summer School en Alicante

Much more than a summer school.

At Elian’s British School of La Nucía, summer becomes much more than just a sports camp. Under the concept “Beyond the Game”, we offer a unique experience for children and youngsters aged 1 to 16, where each discipline becomes a gateway to history, science and personal growth.

This Summer School is not just about running, throwing or scoring. It’s about understanding the purpose behind every movement, turning learning into a complete experience that combines sport, culture and values. In addition, the entire programme takes place in a fully immersive environment, where students strengthen their English naturally and continuously by using it in real, everyday situations.

A programme that goes beyond sport

Over six weeks (from 22nd June to 31st July), students experience full immersion in a variety of sport disciplines. Each week focuses on a different sport, explored by playing and experimenting, historical and cultural context, and through the development of personal skills.

English is used as the main language throughout, helping students improve their comprehension, gain confidence when speaking and expand their vocabulary in a natural way. The aim is not only physical improvement, but also to develop more confident, curious and well-rounded individuals.

Learning sport through its history

Each discipline is adapted to the age of the students, creating meaningful and engaging experiences. In Early Years (ages 1–5), learning takes place through imaginative play, storytelling and exploration. In Primary (ages 6–12), students take part in challenges, games and activities enriched with historical context. In Secondary (ages 13–16), the focus becomes more analytical, exploring strategy, ethics and the science behind sport.

For example, in athletics, younger children take on the role of messengers from ancient Greece, while older students explore figures such as Usain Bolt or Jesse Owens and their social impact.

Weekly programme

Each week offers a different focus:

  • Week 1: Athletics – developing fundamental skills through play
  • Week 2: Tennis – precision, coordination and respect
  • Week 3: Volleyball – teamwork and synchronisation
  • Week 4: Football – strategy and game awareness
  • Week 5: Basketball – quick decision-making and creativity
  • Week 6: Creative Olympics – design, art and cooperation

“All activities are adapted for all age groups.”

Assessment based on values, not results

At Elian’s, progress is not measured by who wins, but by how each student grows. Throughout the week, students take part in challenges that promote friendship, courtesy, personal development and teamwork.

Fridays feature the “Progress Station”, where technical skills, English culture and fair play recognition come together. This approach highlights something essential: sport as an educational and emotional tool, whilst students continue to develop their English in a fully integrated way.

Learning beyond the classroom

The programme includes purposeful trips designed to reinforce what students learn in each discipline. These experiences help them connect theory with practice in real environments, as they build friendships and confidence.

Furthermore, the popular “Fantastic Fridays” arrive full of themed parties, water games and fun activities that turn each week into a celebration.

A finale to share with families

The camp ends with a “Family Grand Finale”, a day designed to enjoy and celebrate together everything experienced throughout the summer:

Grand outdoor barbecue
Water games in the swimming pool
Shared activities
A perfect ending that strengthens the sense of community between families, students and teachers.

Nutrition and daily preparation

The programme includes a high-performance menu designed for young athletes, combining quality carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables, fruit and constant hydration to maintain energy levels throughout the day.

Students are encouraged to bring a backpack each day with sportswear, sun protection and everything they need to fully enjoy the experience.

Much more than a Summer School

“Beyond the Game” is not just a summer camp. It is an experience that helps children challenge themselves, work as a team, understand sport from within and strengthen their English naturally and effectively as part of their daily routine. Because in the end, as the programme itself defines:

“Your child deserves a summer that makes history.”
