In common with the rest of Spain, the state health system in Alicante is operated through the social security system. There are also some private hospitals and clinics that can be accessed with or without insurance.

The cost of living has gone up all over Spain and this is also true of Alicante. Despite this, if you come from another European country there shouldn’t be a problem. The most famous are the St. John’s Eve bonfires (“Las hogueras de San Juan”). Celebrated in June, these are the best-known public events in Alicante. They include parades, mascletás (fireworks displays), open-air dances and a range of other cultural activities.
